Both positions are based in Copenhagen and involve managing projects in either East or West Africa. Background The Danish Institute for Human Rights (the Institute) is the national human rights institution in Denmark, with a mandate to work internationally. The Institute has strong, long-standing partnerships in East and West Africa. The Project Managers will be part of the Human Rights Africa Department, working with colleagues at headquarters as well as with approximately 25 colleagues across eight African countries. You will contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects, including work with the National Human Rights Institutions (our sister institutions) in either Ethiopia or Côte d’Ivoire and Mali. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the promotion and protection of human rights in our partner countries in Africa. It is particularly well suited to professionals with approximately five years of experience in project management, ideally within the fields of human rights or development cooperation. Fluency in English and French is a requirement. Main tasks As a full-time Project Manager, your tasks will include: Managing a portfolio of projects in accordance with the Institute’s procedures for project management and administration, including budgeting and project monitoring. Contributing to the development of work plans and annual narrative and financial reports and taking responsibility for the monitoring and evaluation of projects. Planning and executing project activities, including coordinating logistical and administrative arrangements. Delivering a range of project administration tasks, such as drafting MoUs, project contracts, terms of reference, etc. Ensuring smooth coordination and communication with partners and other stakeholders to continue building relationships and support project implementation. Travelling regularly to the relevant countries in Africa. Your qualifications and experience An advanced university degree (Master’s degree) in political science, social sciences, law, global studies or similar. A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in project management and administration, including financial management. Experience in liaising and engaging with donors, international and regional organisations, national human rights institutions or civil society. Knowledge of the international human rights framework and experience working with human-rights-related issues. Relevant professional experience from East and/or West Africa is a strong asset. Languages: fluent and professional English and French are mandatory for both positions. The ability to communicate in Danish is an asset. Your personal skills A positive and dynamic personality. A team player with demonstrated experience of working in an international environment. Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills, including proven experience in developing partnerships. Well organised, flexible and able to work independently. Good at complying with procedures and meeting deadlines. Salary and conditions of employment The duty station is Copenhagen. The selected candidate must be permitted to work in Denmark. The position is a full-time adviser position (37 hours per week) in accordance with the relevant Danish laws and staff guidelines. Salary is set in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, with the possibility of negotiating a qualification supplement.
