About this role

Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for participating in the provision of a quality, efficient, responsive, flexible and effective estates service, working as part of the Estates & Facilities Team.

This Post is part of the Small Works Team who provides maintenance services, both planned and reactive, for the properties belonging to the Trust.

The Post Holder is expected to provide a comprehensive painting, decorating, carpet laying and general maintenance assistance service for all areas of the Hospital.

The post holder will be working to established building system procedures, good practice, organisational and broad occupation policies. Often working to measured standards and procedures which require specific training; in first line response situations the post holder will need to establish how such policies can be implemented.

Main duties of the job

To carry forward internal and external painting, and repair works to plastering and ceramic tiling in buildings and fabric including paper hanging, stencilling in line with manufacturer's recommendations, best practice and consummate with trained skills and experience.

To carry out defective item maintenance on the building fabric (internally and externally) in line with best practice, health and safety and consummate with the aim of returning the item to service as quickly as possible.

To carry out necessary decorating and maintenance tasks to ensure the up-keep and to improve the overall look of the Trust.

To undertake rotational area painting duties along with reactive calls for add-hock reported defects, reporting to Facilities team

Carry out routine painting and decorating on a program along with add-hock reactive maintenance calls.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will work appropriately to their core specialist skills and level of qualification. The main activities of the role are painter; maintenance; reactive repairs; compliance monitoring and associated remedial work.

Will perform work of routine and non-routine non-complex and complex nature, responsible for all repairs and routine planned maintenance activities as directed by management. Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures, taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.

For small repairs, the post holder may work alone. On larger projects will work in a team, alongside other estates team staff such as tilers, plumbers, bricklayers and carpenter and may have to travel between sites.

The post holder will undertake condition surveys, evaluating inspection reports and maintenance repairs, improvement and capital work across the Estate and other Buildings as directed by management, ensuring compliance with the Trust safety standards and procedures.

Person Specification

Skills and knowledge Essential

Ability to record detailed and accurate repairs information relating to repair inspections or completed repair jobs.

Education and Qualifications Essential

A qualification in Painting & Decorating e.g. NVQ level 3 or equivalent level of experience GCSE' Grade 3 (or equivalent) or above in English

Experience Essential

Experience of working with a range of portable tools, small plant, ladders and equipment to enable duties of the job to be carried out.

Desirable

Experience of working within NHS Acute Trusts with maintenance and minor works project delivery experience
