Summary: Performs a variety of professional duties required to support the day-to-day operations of the school health services program, including the handling of complex and/or sensitive situations; oversees liaison staff; collaborates with school and county organizations and groups.

Qualifications: Required

• Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a health-related field. • Two (2) years of experience in providing services to school-aged children in an educational setting or in a pediatric community health role. • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

• Possession of a current license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia and in good standing with the Virginia Board of Nursing. • Knowledge of theory, procedures, and practices related to student health and wellness. • Knowledge of public health concerns and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies. • Proficiency in the use of technology. • Ability to collaborate with other child-serving agencies. • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with other professionals within the schools and communities. • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • Ability to gather, analyze, interpret, and reconcile data. • Working knowledge of computers and software applications.

Major Duties/Essential Functions: • Performs a variety of professional duties, overseeing school health liaisons and supporting parents/guardians and other school staff regarding first aid, immunizations, medications, communicable diseases, and student wellness. • Monitors the operational assistance provided by liaison staff to support the delivery of high-quality student health care. • Compiles and verifies health data; maintains and monitors appropriate databases. • Develops reports related to school-based health activities and screenings within established timeframes in compliance with procedures and advises school staff regarding immunization regulations. • Provides support to schools regarding documenting and interpreting immunization data and supports student information assistants and registrars with audits. • Collaborates with public health nurses regarding immunization records and develops reporting mechanisms to track areas of the county that need additional support regarding immunizations. • Supports schools in the development and maintenance of school wellness teams to include wellness activities and communication and coordination with families, staff, and community members regarding wellness initiatives. • Shares important information pertaining to divisionwide school health services requirements, policies, and protocols for school staff by developing and conducting training and educational sessions at the local level in support of compliance with the program and to heighten the awareness of and interest in health and wellness matters focused on the improvement of student health and wellness. • Correctly interprets and applies federal, state, and local regulations and policies related to all areas of student health and wellness. • Responds to information requests from school staff, parents/guardians, and community groups. • May serve on health-related committees such as the School Health Advisory Committee and the Medical Services Review Team. • Assists with the administration of tasks in the absence of the program manager. • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
