Summary: Directs a large broad-based broad multi-sectioned office responsible for the design, coordination, and implementation of equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives; provides leadership to establish action plans, policy, and regulations in support of a welcoming and safe environment for all of our students and employees; collaborates across the Division to develop and deliver professional development to prioritize the awareness and understanding of racial equity, cultural competence, and equitable access; plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates all activities, program functions, personnel, physical, and fiscal resources of the assigned office; is responsible and accountable for strategic planning and outcomes.

Qualifications: Required

• Master's degree. • Six (6) years of experience in teaching and/or administration and supervision in a related specialty. • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

• Postgraduate educational license with endorsement(s) designated appropriate to assignment. • Administration and supervision preK-12 endorsement. • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and current trends of school administration. • Knowledge of the procedures and practices of cultural competency, cultural responsiveness, equity, inclusion, and diversity. • Familiarity with applicable regulations, legislations, and policies. • Ability to manage fiscal, physical, and human resources to successfully carry out the function and programs of the office. • Ability to problem-solve multifaceted issues by analyzing information, evaluating results, and choosing the best approach to short- and long-term problems. • Ability to manage conflict, deal with controversy, and handle sensitive confidential information. • Ability to plan and coordinate professional development activities. • Capacity to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with personnel assigned to schools, other departments, public entities, families, and citizens. • Proficiency in the use of technology, data compilation, analysis, and reporting analysis. • Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups. • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Major Duties/Essential Functions: • Leads in the development, management, evaluation, and modification of programs that provide equitable opportunities for all staff, students, and families. • Leads in the development of strategies and action plans for achieving the goals in the Strategic Plan and the monitoring of results for and application to the assigned office, with accountability to FCPS leadership. • Designs, develops, and directs the implementation of an FCPS Educational Equity policy that complements the county government One Fairfax policy. • Leads in the development and/or modification of regulation to support strategic initiatives. • Directs the planning and implementation of staff development, coaching, and training programs for school-based and central office staff. • Manages risk and matters of compliance related to local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and mandates. • Represents the Division to reach consensus, resolve conflicts, and facilitate resolution regarding matters of significance such as anti-racism, anti-hate, anti-bias, student achievement, and closing the opportunity, access, and achievement gaps. • Projects need for, manages, and is accountable for human, physical, and financial resources with the goal of maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the office. • Communicates research-based best practices to increase student opportunities, access, and achievement. • Collaborates across the Division to ensure equity remains a priority in efforts such as recruiting, hiring and retaining a diverse workforce, and ensuring curriculum is representative of the diversity within FCPS. • Coordinates and develops school-based and central office equity leads positions to maximize awareness and utilization of equity training resources. • Directs the completion of program statistics and ensures development of appropriate reports, regulations, and related directives for Leadership Team and/or School Board consideration and action. • Maintains and continually builds the Equity Profiles on the FCPS website; leads in ensuring data collection for equity efforts such as student performance data, student discipline data, climate surveys, and equity audits. • Leads or facilitates meetings with community groups or employee associations within the school division, family/community groups, community groups, employee associations, and other outside agencies. • Meets with, presents to, and/or makes recommendations to high-level officials or School Board. • Oversees the work of vendors or contractors. • May serve as a primary backup for the executive director in his or her absence. • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Per the FCFPSA collective bargaining agreement, telework may be approved in limited circumstances as defined by Regulation 4417.
