Banes Enhanced Medical Services (BEMS) is seeking a new Chairperson to lead our Council meetings and AGM, providing strategic leadership, ensuring strong governance, and supporting high-quality services across the B&NES region.

BEMS is the local not-for-profit GP Federation that works across the community to improve patient care through providing high quality community based clinical services and by linking together local General Practices and other agencies to help develop and provide those services.

ROLE SUMMARY
Provide independent, non-executive leadership to the BEMS Council (GP Federation Board).
Chair Council meetings effectively, ensuring clear agendas, decision-making, and governance compliance.
Attend the Primary Care Collaborative, which is the voice of primary care, members include all the PCN Clinical Directors, representatives from BEMS, ICB, Wessex LMC and a Practice Manager.
Support the development and implementation of BEMS strategic vision, ensuring alignment with local NHS and primary care priorities.
Facilitate constructive debate, challenge constructively, and encourage diversity of opinion to strengthen decision-making.
Mentor and support the CEO and executive team, while maintaining independence from day-to-day operational management.
Promote and uphold the values of collaboration, quality improvement, and patient-centred care.
Uphold BEMS values as a membership-focused, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to patient care and community health.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Evidence of ability to operate at a strategic, board level, whether through formal education or equivalent senior experience Commitment to ongoing personal development relevant to the Chair role
Desirable
Formal training or qualification in leadership/governance e.g. NHS Leadership Academy
Personal Qualities Essential
-Ability to lead a board impartially, build consensus among diverse members, and manage constructive challenge -Commitment to the Federation's constitution, values, and the interests of member practices and the patients they serve -Demonstrates personal and professional integrity -Proactive, flexible and positive attitude
Experience Essential
-Experience in Primary Care leadership -Proven experience chairing or serving on a board or senior committee, ideally within healthcare -Understanding of financial strategies and finance related performance metrics -Strong aptitude for verbal and written communication, presentation, and relationship management -Experience in managing complex stakeholder relationships.
Desirable
-Previous experience as a chair or non-executive director -Experience of FCA-registered society, co-operative, mutual, or Community Benefit Society governance -Strong understanding of NHS primary care commissioning, local healthcare landscape, and GP federation models -Strong existing links to the B&NES area with insight into B&NES-specific population health needs and local system priorities
