About this role

Job summary

The Mental Health Recovery Worker is a key role within the Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support Service (DRPSS). The role involves giving support to individuals living with mental illness on a one-to-one basis and through group support and also involves supporting and guiding volunteers to be successful in their roles within the team. The role involves liaising with and facilitating access to other services on behalf of service users to meet individual requirements.

Please note - this is a fixed-term role until 31st March 2027, however the contract may be extended subject to funding.

To provide support through one-to-one and group intervention to those experiencing mental ill health with the aim of self-management and sustainment for a better quality of life.

Job description Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1) Provide key-worker support to individuals with mental illness, through one-to-one and group support.

2) To have the individuals needs at the fore at all times, working to the recovery model and using communication, motivation and coaching skills to support the service user to achieve their goals and aspirations.

3) Carry out assessments of service users engaging with the service, prioritising needs effectively.

4) To be familiar with individual Care/Recovery Plans and support people who use our services in achieving their goals.

5) Liaise with other external agencies, mental health services, and community groups on behalf of service users.

6) Enable and encourage service users to learn about and attend local services in their community, and facilitate access to alternative services where required.

7) Encourage service users to recognise, understand, and manage factors that affect their mental wellbeing and physical health.

8) Ensure people are at the centre of the support they receive.

9) Carry out individual safety and support planning within organisational and legislative requirements.

10) Work with service users to develop, review, monitor and adapt support and safety plans.

11) Ensure effective incident and complaint recording, including reporting on Sphera.

12) Support and guide volunteers to be successful in their role.

13) Monitor and report to senior staff on the effectiveness of support delivery and contract performance.

14) Participate in monitoring requirements of the service by providing statistical and qualitative information on activities, success stories, and outcomes achieved.

15) Engage with community events, meetings, and forums to promote the service.

16) To attend meetings and training where necessary.

17) Ensure all activities meet organisational values and standards and are compliant with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., safeguarding, GDPR).

Personal Development

1) Undertake training as required or considered appropriate for the role.

2) Actively participate in regular supervision sessions and team meetings.

3) Participate in Individual Performance Review and Personal Development plans, and undertake training and development as identified within these discussions and as indicated by the requirements of the post.

General

1) Maintain a professional and confidential approach to work at all times.

2) Work in line with Derbyshire Mind policies, procedures, codes, and guidance, including in relation to health and safety, confidentiality, safeguarding, data protection and equal opportunities.

3) Actively promote the aims and principles of Derbyshire Mind and take part in any Derbyshire Mind activities as directed.

4) Maintain the confidentiality of any information gained during employment with Derbyshire Mind at all times.

5) The post holder will be required to travel frequently across Erewash, Derbyshire, therefore a full driving license and access to your own car is required. The post holder will also need to be flexible in their approach to working from our office or home as appropriate/ required.

6) The post requires flexible working, which may include some evening and weekend work on occasion.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Can you give us an example of when you have provided support to people with poor mental health, and do you have knowledge of other mental health support services in the local area? Can you give us an example of how you have worked with vulnerable adults in a person-centred practice? Please include how you would manage case files, confidentiality and risk?

Qualifications Essential

Do you have English and Mathematics at GCSE Grade C or equivalent QCF Diploma or NVQ level 3 in Care or Certificate in Community Mental Healthcare (or working towards) or an equivalent qualification?

Other Job requirements Essential

Hold a full driving licence and have access to own car to deliver the requirements of the job description

How do you prioritise and manage your own time and caseload? Give us an example of your knowledge and understanding of working with sensitive/confidential information both in and outside of the workplace? Detail your understanding and knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications and working with CRM systems? Give us examples of how you have built effective trusting relationships with vulnerable adults with experience in mental health problems with respect to honesty and dignity. Give us an example of how you work as part of a team and how you communicate effectively?
