About this role

Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Gastroenterology Department. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across a broad range of gastroenterology services.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive gastroenterology care across inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy settings, contributing to the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders. Working alongside consultant colleagues, specialist nurses, surgeons, radiologists and allied health professionals, the post holder will play a key role in maintaining and developing high standards of clinical care.

The department offers a supportive environment focused on service innovation, clinical excellence, education and research. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to service development initiatives and help shape the future delivery of gastroenterology services across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Provide consultant-led gastroenterology services across inpatient and outpatient settings. Undertake diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy in line with JAG standards and personal competencies. Participate in the care of acute and elective gastroenterology patients. Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborative working across specialties. Participate in the gastroenterology on-call rota as required. Support the delivery of high-quality, safe and effective patient care. Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development activities. Provide teaching, training and supervision to junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals. Participate in research and innovation activities where appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training Essential

MRCP or equivalent Entry onto the Specialist Register for GMC or be within six months of obtaining CCT/CCST/CESR in gastroenterology and GIM CESR or European Community Rights

Desirable

MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research

Clinical Experience Essential

High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the specialty Able to contribute to the full range of skills required for the on call rota for the specialty
