Job summary
To provide an efficient, accurate and safe dispensing service to patients under the supervision of the Dispensary Lead and in accordance with practice procedures, NHS regulations and relevant legislation. The post holder will contribute as part of a dispensary team, ensuring high standards of patient care, stock control and medicines management.

Prepare and dispense prescriptions accurately in accordance with practice procedures and legal requirements.Assist patients with medication collection and dispensary enquiries.Provide a courteous, professional and helpful service.Receive and unpack medication deliveries.Support the management of controlled drugs in accordance with practice procedures.Provide cover for colleagues during annual leave and sickness absence.Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

DispensingPrepare and dispense prescriptions accurately in accordance with practice procedures and legal requirements.Process repeat prescriptions efficiently and safely.Ensure prescriptions are labelled correctly and checked before issue.Refer dispensing queries to the Dispensary Lead, pharmacist or GP when necessary.Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.Patient ServicesAssist patients with medication collection and dispensary enquiries.Provide a courteous, professional and helpful service.Manage patient expectations regarding prescription turnaround times.Liaise with patients regarding stock availability and collection arrangements.Stock ManagementReceive and unpack medication deliveries.Maintain appropriate stock levels as directed by the Dispensary Lead.Rotate stock and carry out expiry date checks.Report stock shortages and discrepancies promptly.Ensure dispensary shelves are tidy and organised.Controlled DrugsSupport the management of controlled drugs in accordance with practice procedures.Assist with controlled drug stock checks when required.Maintain security of medicines and report any discrepancies immediately.AdministrationFile prescriptions and maintain dispensing records.Process dispensing patient registration forms as directed.Assist with claims, audits and stock reconciliations.Support end-of-month stock counts and dispensary administration.Governance and ComplianceFollow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Participate in audits and quality improvement activities.Report incidents, near misses and dispensing errors promptly.Comply with CQC requirements, NHS regulations and practice policies.Adhere to GDPR and confidentiality requirements.Health and SafetyMaintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.Follow COSHH, infection prevention and control, and health and safety procedures.Participate in mandatory training, including safeguarding.General ResponsibilitiesWork collaboratively as part of the dispensary team.Provide cover for colleagues during annual leave and sickness absence.Attend team meetings and mandatory training sessions.Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning and development.Undertake any reasonable duties commensurate with the level of the post.

Qualifications Essential
Good literacy and numeracy Excellent attention to detail Customer service experience Ability to work as part of a team NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Service GP or pharmacy dispensing experience Knowledge of NHS prescribing processes IT skills and use of clinical systems Organisational skills
