About this role

Job summary

We have an exciting fixed term (~12 month) opportunity to recruit a 0.8WTE Principal Dietitian (Band 8a) within the Ketogenic diet team at Evelina London Children's Hospital, part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) to cover maternity leave. The team provides expert dietary therapy to children and young people with epilepsy and other neurological or metabolic conditions, using the ketogenic diet as a therapeutic tool.

This post will work across both inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting tertiary referrals and supporting the South East London region. The postholder will work as part of a highly specialist multidisciplinary team and line manage a 1.0 WTE Band 6 Dietitian.

Main duties of the job

The Principal Paediatric Dietitian- Ketogenic will lead a small, specialist team currently consisting of one Band 6 dietitian, while maintaining their own highly specialised clinical caseload in ketogenic dietary therapy. This role is central to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care for children requiring ketogenic management, often inthe context of complex neurological or metabolic conditions.In addition to their clinical responsibilities, the post holder will be actively involved in managing the team, supporting professional development, and developing a culture of excellence and innovation. They will play a key role in service development, working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to enhance pathways and models of care.

About us

The post holders will join a wider paediatric dietetic team of more than 40 dietitians and dietetic assistants who cover a wide range of specialties including inherited metabolic disease, diabetes, renal, gastroenterology, complex feeding clinic, allergy and respiratory.

The service is overseen by the Evelina London Lead Dietitian and the Paediatric team form part of the wider Guy's and St Thomas' dietetic department of over 100 dietitians, with a focus on innovation, quality, education, development and well-being.

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Degree in dietetics or equivalent Masters level qualification or evidence of working at Master's level HCPC Registration Extensive specialist experience in paediatric ketogenics

Leadership / Management qualification or training

Previous Experience Essential

Extensive experience of paediatric ketogenic dietetics Experience of training student dietitians Working as part of an MDT Previous experience of audit / research Team lead and line management experience
