About this role

Job summary

This is a pivotal leadership position responsible for leading the performance of all building & infrastructure team services across one of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust sites.

The role will be responsible for operational delivery of building and infrastructure management to ensure the estate and associated infrastructure is fit for purpose, legally compliant, whilst the teams provide high levels of customer service and meeting other institutional priorities and initiatives.

The role requires a people centric leader, who delivers operational transformation whilst championing the Trust values prioritising our commitments to EDI and culture transformation.

The successful candidate will possess a high level of financial acumen, technical expertise, the ability to lead large teams who deliver operational excellence, patient, staff and visitor safety.

As one of the Essentia Leadership Team you will be required to work one weekend every 3 months and be part of the Directorates on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

Lead a team of professional, technical, trade staff and a range of service and specialist contractors Lead the implementation of GSTT's strategy for re-active and PPM maintenance of the estate across all estate infrastructure having regard to agreed institutional and clinical priorities Drive a safety culture with the team and with all suppliers to ensure the delivery of a safe, healthy and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors Establish and deliver operational performance (financial and non-financial) targets against agreed service standards, including compliance with Financial & Procurement Regulations Continuously monitor and review services; identify and implement service, operational and financial improvements to deliver within allocated budgets, improving value for money, including being responsive to changing business needs Ensure the team has appropriate technical and professional skills and the necessary management competencies to undertake duties in line with the Trust values and behaviour

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Education Essential

Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline with additional professional/managerial development, or equivalent demonstrable technical, operational and leadership experience. Evidence of continued professional and managerial development. Authorised Person / Responsible Person training/qualifications relevant to service scope, or equivalent demonstrable competence and experience supported by formal appointment arrangements. Health and safety qualification (for example NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH or equivalent knowledge/training and experience relevant to the role).

Desirable

Continuing professional development (CPD) across the technical areas within the post holder's span of control.

Professionals/ Statutory Registration Essential

No statutory professional registration is specified for this post unless expressly required by law or local policy. Role-specific Authorised Person / Responsible Person appointments must be supported by demonstrable competence, training and formal Trust appointment under technical governance arrangements.

Previous experience Essential

Extensive successful track record of leading engineering/building operations functions within estates, facilities, infrastructure or a similarly complex environment (NHS or equivalent). Extensive successful track record of leadership and achievement at senior level in a large, complex organisation. Detailed understanding of building and engineering service requirements, compliance and operational risk management within a complex environment.

Knowledge Essential

Excellent understanding and specialist knowledge of estates and engineering service delivery, compliance and assurance within complex organisations. Working knowledge of relevant healthcare estates guidance (for example HTM/HBN) and associated regulatory and institutional requirements where applicable. Highly developed leadership skills with the ability to motivate and involve individuals and teams, and support delivery of Trust-wide and local performance expectations. Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to a range of audiences and support understanding, learning and safe decision-making in multidisciplinary environments

Skills & Abilities Essential

Extensive track record of effective partnership working with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to analyse, synthesise and interpret highly complex data, filtering and interpreting information to identify and focus on issues to be addressed at board level. Proven strong written communication skills, in particular for complex drafting, and ability to produce & present effective business cases. Effective listening skills and the ability to build excellent interpersonal relationships Inclusive, compassionate and accountable leadership skills, including the ability to create psychologically safe teams, use feedback and data to improve performance and equity, and challenge discriminatory behaviour appropriately Team player, able to motivate and inspire
