Job summary

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts work in partnership following the formation of the Pathology Network North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS).

We are seeking applications from enthusiastic, highly motivated and confident individuals to join our Phlebotomy team as a Deputy Phlebotomy Manager. 2 positions are available.

The successful applicant would be expected to support the Phlebotomy Manager in the delivery of the Phlebotomy service at Royal Stoke Hospital.

The successful applicant will also be expected to provide cover and support across NMCPS sites when required to do so.

The collection of quality blood samples from patients is a vital stage in many medical investigations.

Main duties of the job

Based at Royal Stoke Hospital, the successful applicant will be expected to provide day to day management of the phlebotomy team. You will also be expected to deputise for the Phlebotomy Manager and support the phlebotomy supervisor(s).

The role will involve the day to day management of a team of phlebotomists to ensure standardised best practices are delivered at all locations. You should have experience of staff supervision and enjoy taking a proactive approach to problem solving.

Experience in all phlebotomy techniques is essential. Previous supervisory experience would be considered an advantage.

The successful applicant must enjoy working with people and possess good communication skills. Attention to detail is important along with basic key board skills.

Strong IT skills are essential, along with experience of data entry and use of Microsoft Office applications.

Above all, you should have a mature attitude to work with the desire to use your leadership abilities, initiative and communication skills to provide an excellent service for our patients.

Applicants will be required to use their own vehicle to travel to the various community locations for which traveling expenses will be reimbursed.

The position is full time; 37.5 hours per week.

o5 GCSEs or equivalent to include English and Maths at grade C or above or equivalent oTrained phlebotomist

oOCR equivalent in working with Excel, Power point, Access and Outlook (or equivalent software) oNVQ II in Customer Care

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience Essential

oDemonstrable experience of staff supervision oThe post holder is expected to be highly competent in phlebotomy techniques oExcellent organisational and prioritisation skills and able to work to deadlines oExcellent team working skills including assisting and covering the work of other team members as appropriate oAbility to collate information and demonstrate effective systems for accurate recording both manually and electronically.
