We are seeking an Assistant Psychologist to support theGetting Advice and Getting Help Pathways within Rotherham CAMHS, working under the supervision of Clinical Psychologists.

Main duties of the job
As an Assistant Psychologist within the team, you will be involved in undertaking assessments with children and families, school-based observation assessments, administering psychometric assessments, co-working with young people alongside clinicians, and providing therapeutic support where appropriate. This will enable you to utilise and further develop your clinical skills and knowledge.
The Getting Advice and Getting Help Pathways within Rotherham CAMHS form part of a multi-disciplinary service, bringing together professionals from a range of backgrounds. Rotherham CAMHS sits within the Children Care Group, alongside CAMHS services in Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. This is an exciting time for the service as it continues to develop, enhance our service offer using the THRIVE model (an integrated, person centred and needs led approach) and strengthening care pathways underpinned by national CAMHS strategies and initiatives.
An Honours degree in Psychology (BSc), experience of working with mental health or psychological difficulties, and strong communication skills are all essential requirements. Applicants should have access to transport and the ability to travel within the required geographical area. The post holder will receive training, professional support, and regular supervision.

Person Specification
Training and Qualifications Essential
An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable
oA postgraduate degree (MSc) in Psychology or other relevant area such as mental health practice or research design. oTraining in psychometric testing and/or neurodevelopmental assessment.
Experience Essential
oExperience working with children and young people (CYP) in a mental health, educational, social care, or community setting for six months or more. oExperience of working in multi-disciplinary or multi-agency environments.
Desirable
oExperience of collecting and analysing routine outcome measures. oExperience working in CAMHS or similar NHS mental health services. oExperience administering and scoring psychometric assessments oExperience of working with CYP with mental health difficulties or learning needs. oExperience of working with neurodevelopmental presentations (e.g., autism, ADHD) oExperience of working with systems around the child e.g., parents, schools, social care, or other professionals. oExperience conducting audit, service evaluation, or research in clinic settings.
Knowledge Essential
oUnderstanding of psychological models relevant to CYP mental health. oAwareness of the THRIVE Framework and its relevance to CAMHS pathways. oKnowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality, and child protection legislation. oUnderstanding of the role of an Assistant Psychologist within the NHS. oAwareness of issues affecting CYP's mental health, including social, developmental, and systemic factors. oAn understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health difficulties and neurodiversity. oAn understanding of psychology applied to health care.
Desirable
oKnowledge of neurodevelopmental and cognitive assessment tools and processes. oUnderstanding of outcome measures, audit processes, and service evaluation. oKnowledge of trauma-informed and person-centred approaches.
Skills Essential
oCompetence in using IT systems including word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet, and clinical systems such as SystmOne. oHigh level of communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive. oAbility to communicate sensitive information to CYP, parents and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance and embeds psychological thinking. oAbility to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context. oExcellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively. oAbility to maintain focus for extended periods during assessments or sessions. oAbility to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals. oStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with CYP, their families, (non-psychology) colleagues, and to work collaboratively as part of an MDT.
Desirable
oHigh standard of report writing. oAn ability to form psychological theory-practice links to inform clinical work. oAn ability and openness to develop formulation skills and remain open-minded to other possible hypotheses, e.g., considering CYP development, attachment needs, systemic factors, underlying neurodiversity or learning needs. oAbility to contribute to research discussions and embed psychological thinking within teams
