Job summary
The Forensic Practitioner provides specialist assessment, risk management, and develops intervention plans with the multi-disciplinary team for people with learning disabilities and/or autism who have complex needs, forensic histories, or identified risks. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder promotes recovery, wellbeing, social inclusion, and community safety through evidence-based, trauma-informed practice, while offering specialist advice, support, and training to clients, carers, and partner agencies.
Main duties of the job
To improve the lives of people with learning disabilities and/or autism by minimising the impact of their condition through the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and wellbeing.
To be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients and their carers, and practice within a trauma informed framework.
To be professionally accountable and responsible for client care, undertaking a range of clinical/therapeutic interventions in clients' homes and other community settings.
To provide specialist assessment and advice to a range of services/organisations regarding the management and care of clients.
To promote social inclusion, community access and participation through the provision of client care.
To be committed to and take a lead role in activities integral to the Trust's Quality Improvement System.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Current UK Professional Registration in: Learning Disability Nursing, Mental Health Nursing or Social Work. Evidence of post registration training or experience in trauma-informed care, Personality Disorder, Anger Management, therapeutic or psychosocial interventions Experience of working with individuals with forensic needs and/or risks. ENB 998/Mentorship in practice or equivalent
Desirable
Post-registration qualification in therapeutic/psychosocial interventions (e.g., informed by cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy).
Knowledge / skills / Experience Essential
Understanding / working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, DoLS) Care Programme Approach (CPA) Care and Treatment Review (CTR) Process - including Blue Light CTR's Awareness / understanding of Vulnerable Adult guidance Experience of working with families and relatives Experience of communicating and presenting to a wide range of agencies and forums. Experience of use of skills to enable communication with people who have limited or different communication abilities Judgemental skills - the ability to analyse and assist in making decisions regarding client risk and care in complex cases. Practical experience of working with people with complex mental health needs/intellectual disabilities/ neurodevelopmental disorder/attachment/personality disorders Crisis Working and excellent time management skills Significant experience of working with people with learning disabilities and a history of risk or offending behaviour Problem solving skills Report writing skills Excellent working Knowledge of evidence-based practice and current government guidance in learning disabilities A team player, but also experience in autonomous working Implementation of behavioural strategies and monitoring of same. Experience of multi-disciplinary/agency working Experience in supporting people with a wide range of vulnerabilities that effect Mental Health Understanding diversity and implementation into practice
Desirable
Experience of leading on or contributing towards forensic risk assessment (e.g., HCR-20, ARMIDILO-S). Experience of providing structured psychosocial interventions either individually or within a group setting (e.g., informed by CBT or DBT). Staff motivation, team building skills Awareness of child protection issues and an understanding of child protection policies. Facilitation and teaching of groups of staff, in-house and external. Experience of leading/managing project work Skills in supporting other staff and students Experience of managing violent, aggressive situations
