Position Summary
The Senior Internship Program Coordinator plays a key leadership role in the operational delivery of CIEE London's internship and experiential learning programmes. Reporting to the Internships Director, this position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day coordination of internship placements, employer engagement, student support, and programme administration, ensuring a consistently high-quality experience for students and host organisations.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Senior Coordinator serves as the primary operational lead for internship placement activities and employer relationship management. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining a strong portfolio of internship hosts, coordinating complex placement logistics, monitoring programme quality, and driving continuous improvement across internship operations.
The Senior Coordinator works collaboratively across Academic, Student Life, Customised Programmes, and external university partners to ensure internship programmes are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and in alignment with CIEE's strategic objectives. The role also provides guidance and support to colleagues within the Internships team and acts as the operational lead in the Director's absence.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Operations & Placement Management
Lead the end-to-end coordination of internship placements from application through programme completion. Manage complex and high-volume placement processes while ensuring exceptional service delivery. Match students with internship opportunities that align with academic requirements, career aspirations, and employer needs. Coordinate employer interviews, placement offers, onboarding, and placement confirmations. Monitor placement timelines to ensure all programme deadlines and service standards are consistently achieved. Resolve placement challenges proactively, identifying appropriate solutions while maintaining positive stakeholder relationships. Ensure accurate maintenance of placement records and student documentation throughout the programme lifecycle. Monitor programme quality and identify opportunities to improve operational processes and student outcomes.
Employer Partnership Management
Serve as the senior operational contact for internship host organisations. Develop, strengthen, and maintain long-term relationships with employers across a broad range of industry sectors. Proactively source and cultivate new internship opportunities that align with programme growth objectives. Conduct regular employer engagement activities to ensure placement quality and partner satisfaction. Provide guidance to employers on programme expectations, student support, and best practices. Address employer concerns promptly and professionally while maintaining strong partnerships. Monitor employer performance and recommend improvements where appropriate.
Student Experience
Provide high-quality guidance and support to students throughout the internship process. Prepare students for successful placements through advising, coaching, and preplacement support. Monitor student progress during internships and intervene where appropriate to resolve issues. Foster positive relationships that support student wellbeing, professional development, and programme success. Work collaboratively with Student Life and Academic teams to ensure a coordinated student experience.
Programme Administration & Compliance
Ensure all internship documentation complies with institutional policies, partner requirements, and applicable UK employment and visa regulations. Maintain accurate records within CIEE systems and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders. Monitor programme data, placement statistics, and employer engagement metrics. Support programme assessments, audits, and continuous quality assurance initiatives. Contribute to the development and refinement of operational procedures and best practices.
Leadership & Team Support
Provide day-to-day operational leadership within the Internships team. Act as a subject matter expert on internship processes, policies, and employer engagement. Mentor and support colleagues, sharing knowledge and promoting best practice across the team. Assist with onboarding and training of new team members where appropriate. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, systems, and programme delivery. Act as the operational lead during periods when the Internships Director is unavailable, ensuring continuity of service.
Strategic Contribution
Support the Internships Director in achieving departmental objectives and programme growth targets. Contribute to the development of new employer partnerships and strategic initiatives. Analyse placement trends and employer feedback to inform programme enhancements. Participate in cross-departmental projects that strengthen CIEE London's experiential learning portfolio. Represent the Internships team at internal meetings and external networking events as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Significant experience in internship programmes, career services, higher education, employer engagement, or experiential learning. Demonstrated success managing employer relationships and student placements. Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of professionalism, judgement, and problem-solving ability. Experience working independently and taking ownership of operational processes. Strong administrative and data management skills.
Desirable
Experience supervising or mentoring colleagues. Experience working within international education or study abroad. Knowledge of UK employment practices and internship regulations. Experience using CRM or student management systems.
