Fleming County Schools Job Description Updated February 2024 Class Code: 2095 JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Special Education Teacher - MSD Responsible To: Principal Director of Special Education Basic Function: Plan, organize, and deliver the program of instruction based on approved curriculum; monitors, evaluates, and communicates student progress; maintain records and make reports; enforce Board policies, regulations, and rules; supervise students, and secure and maintain school property and materials. Performance Responsibilities:
• Plan lessons and choose instructional materials based on curriculum and needs of students
• Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the diverse needs of their students.
• Work toward implementing the instructional programs as established through guidelines provided by the district and state.
• Manage time wisely so as to make the greatest use of time for student instruction.
• Create and maintain an atmosphere with consistent standards in the classroom that is conducive to learning.
• Collaborate with other teachers and contributes as a member of school and district professional learning communities
• Evaluate academic performance and progress of students regularly.
• Communicate student performance and progress to parents and guardians following school and district guidelines.
• Work with all school staff to meet and identify the needs of individual students.
• Participate in professional development and follows guidelines and accommodations for
• student special needs.
• Work with principal and others to obtain and practice professional growth opportunities.
• Practice and support safety of students during drills and emergencies.
• Maintain updated inventory records of classroom material and follows guidelines in appropriation of supplies needed for the instructional program.
• Supervise students during school and school sponsored events.
• Administer student diagnostic, achievement, and other tests and assessments following district and state testing guidelines and regulations.
• Play an active role in developing and implementing curriculum related to standards.
• Input, calculate, and maintain all necessary records according to state law, district policy and administrative regulations.
• Serve on school committees related to the selection of instructional materials and school improvement.
• Accept a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
• Adhere to professional code of ethics for certified personnel and all board policies.
• Participate in peer reviews and teacher leadership activities.
• Integrate technology and supplemental materials to support curriculum.
• Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned by the principal, program director or superintendent.

• Strictly adhere to the Kentucky Certified Code of Ethics (704 KAR 20:680)
• Train in Safe Crisis Management
• Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively through varied means
• Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine motor manipulations
• Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light objects and students up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications: Valid Kentucky certification for Special Education MSD Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the board of education. Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for certified personnel.
