POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Mechanic F.L.S.A. Non-Exempt QUALIFICATIONS: Pass pre-employment physical and drug test Acquire valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with P & S endorsements Acquire valid Texas School Bus Driver Certification Be available to work late hours as needed Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts Ability to bend, stoop, stand, kneel and squat Drive bus routes as needed Ability to diagnose, repair and rebuild gasoline or diesel engines High school diploma or GED Prefer five (5) years of mechanical experience MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Able to replace or repair engines, transmissions and all other related components as necessary on both gasoline and diesel powered equipment and vehicles.
• Perform repairs and overhauls on vehicle systems such as fuel, cooling, lubrication, brakes, steering/suspension, drive line, electrical, hydraulic, handicap vehicle equipment and all other job-related duties assigned.
• Read and understand shop manuals, electrical schematics and other technical data as may be necessary to complete repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections and tire repairs.
• Perform gasoline and diesel engine tune-ups and diagnostics.
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Must provide own hand tools.
• Ability to use all standard equipment found in a motor vehicle repair shop.
• Ability to understand and use all new computer diagnostic equipment and emission standards.
• Be knowledgeable of parts and supplies
• Must have basic knowledge of computers and software programs used in troubleshooting and repairs of engine control systems and testing of sensors.
• Ability to operate a school bus.
• Must be cooperative and show initiative towards improving skills.
• Ability to understand and execute verbal and written orders.
• Must be self-motivated in acquiring knowledge and performing Texas school bus inspections correctly.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work independently
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Attendance is an essential job function
• Other duties as assigned.
