Reports to: Business Manager / School Business Administrator Qualifications:
• Valid NJ CDL with “P” and “S” endorsements
• Experience in school or school busing contractor setting preferred
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and through written expression
• Must complete required medical review and immunizations. Must be able to pass DOT mandated physical exam, pre-employment drug and alcohol tests, randomly administered drug and alcohol tests.
• Must pass required criminal history background check
• Provide proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident status
• Possess basic technological skills as required by position
• Knowledge of school bus pre and post trip requirements preferred.

Performance Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the safety and well-being of students
• Uphold and enforce school rules, Board policies, and federal and state law
• Communicate professionally within the school community
• Follows directions and seeks clarification from the school transportation office
• Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing the bus. Drive with the safety of students as first priority. Drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
• Maintains order on vehicles transporting students. This may include students with learning, physical, or emotional disabilities.
• Conduct pre-trip and post trip inspections of the school bus. Report bus defects to the school transportation office.
• Ensures safety of all students by having students remain in seats while vehicle is in transit. Maintain appropriate student management and report student incidents to the transportation office.
• Maintain school vehicles and perform bus housekeeping duties as needed.
• Establishes rapport and maintains respectful relationships with students
• Demonstrates ability to communicate with and respond to students' families as appropriate
• Demonstrates ability to maintain positive working relationships with colleagues
• Presents a professional appearance
• Maintains regular attendance so as to ensure continuity of instruction and/or operation of school district
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or his/her designees
Environmental Demands:
• Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions
• Exposure to both heated/air conditioned and non-climate controlled environments
• Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment
• Potential exposure to a variety of childhood and adult illnesses
• Exposure to a workplace that is usually quiet, but can be noisy at times
Terms of Employment: Hourly Salary: $27 per hour Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation Date Adopted: November 21st, 2022
