The Valley Park School District is seeking a talented educator for a long-term substitute teaching assignment as a Middle School Science Teacher. Description: Valley Park Middle School seeks a highly qualified, student-centered Long-Term Substitute Science Teacher. The Successful Candidate:
• Is knowledgeable about middle school philosophy and the developmental needs of adolescents and will be able to present the curriculum using a problem-centered approach.
• Demonstrates appropriate long and short-term preparation for classroom instruction.
• Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as facilitators of student learning.
• Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each student, individually and in group settings.
• Assesses student progress, provides students and parents with specific feedback, and uses the results to adjust instruction as needed.
• Provides opportunities for academic support and challenge.
• Takes responsibility for teaching the District curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents.
• Demonstrates an understanding of how knowledge in their subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences.
• Keep abreast of current developments in their field and continue to deepen understanding of the discipline(s).
• Establishes and maintains a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and follow lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Provide individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and class.
• Ensure instruction aligns with engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
• Communicate regularly with parents.
• Establish and maintain standards of behavior to achieve a safe and effective learning atmosphere.
• Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare grade reports as needed.
• Identifies student needs, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans.
• Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students' work.
• Other duties as assigned by the building administration.

Compensation: $190.00/day Benefits: Not Eligible FLSA Status: Exempt, Professional Exemption-Teacher.
