Minimum Requirements: An applicant for an educational aide II certificate shall: 1) hold a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school diploma, or higher; 2) have satisfied one of the following requirements: a) have two creditable years of experience, as defined in Chapter 153, Subchapter CC, of this title (relating to Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service), as an educational aide I; b) have completed a minimum of 15 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas; or c) have demonstrated proficiency in a specialized skill area as determined by the school district; and have experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent
Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to provide a structured, disciplined, and supportive environment for secondary students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS). The instructional assistant monitors student behavior, ensures compliance with school rules, and assists students with completing academic assignments provided by their core teachers.
Special Knowledge/Skills: Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain a quiet, orderly, and highly structured environment. Ability to de-escalate behavioral conflicts and handle disciplinary infractions firmly, fairly, and consistently. Proficiency in secondary-level academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) to help students navigate independent assignments. Strong organizational skills to manage, track, and return daily assignments between core classroom teachers and ISS students.
