About this role

Title: Chef Manager Reports To: Director of Food Service Core Responsibilities:

• Menu Development, Development of Standardized Program, and Staff Training: Design nutritious, well-balanced, and appealing menus in accordance with dietary guidelines. Develop recipe cards for standardized recipes. Provide training to Site Managers on the preparation and presentation of new and existing recipes.

• Compliance & Administration: Maintain strict compliance with the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and Massachusetts sanitation codes.

• Food Production: Plan and supervise the preparation, cooking, baking, and serving of food in large quantities.

• Quality Control: Monitor food quality, presentation, and portion control to ensure consistency and ensure meals are appealing and meet USDA nutritional requirements.

• Safety & Sanitation: Enforce strict compliance with food safety regulations, including HACCP, sanitation protocols, and hygiene standards.

• Staff Leadership: Train, schedule, and supervise kitchen personnel.

• Inventory & Purchasing: Manage inventory levels, order food and supplies, verify deliveries, and ensure proper storage.

• Budgeting & Cost Control: Maintain food and labor costs within budget, manage payroll, and handle financial reporting.

• Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all kitchen machinery (ovens, freezers) is operational, requesting repairs as needed.

• Customer Service: Address feedback and complaints from customers (students, parents, and staff).

• Catering Services: Organizing and providing culinary services for district events as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma. Culinary Arts Degree preferred.

• Experience: Previous experience in school food service and management.

• Certification: Valid ServSafe Manager Certificate, Food Allergen Awareness Training Certificate, and CPR Certification.

• Leadership: Ability to train, motivate, and direct staff.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Apps) and school POS systems.

• Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, and school staff.

• Physical Demands: Must possess the physical capability to perform all job functions including but not limited to: reaching, carrying, pushing, bending, standing for long periods of time, stairs, walking, and handling items weighing up to fifty pounds.

Terms of Employment:

• This is a 190-day school year position based on the academic calendar, with 10 additional workdays. This is an eight (8) hour per day position at a rate of $30 per hour.
