Title One Reading Specialist Contact Person: Christie McMahon Phone Number: 828-437-1584 Email: [email protected] Elementary School Reading Specialist Job DescriptionPurpose Statement The job of Title One School Reading Specialist is to improve students' reading capacity by providing high-quality instructional interventions and opportunities for core skill reading practice in a regular classroom setting. This job reports to the Building Principal. Essential Functions Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials to students' reading ability to support and reinforce classroom objectives. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, students' achievements, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, skills, standards, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration. Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards. Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources to improve the overall quality of student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan. Delivers intervention programs and monitors student learning towards established learning targets for the purpose of improving student learning outcomes. Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements. Manages student behavior to provide a safe, optimal learning environment. Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. Participates in meetings and professional development presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. Research resources and methods (e.g., intervention and instructional techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining an appropriate instructional approach for students. Responds to and reports situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. Utilizes data to design and implement learning plans for the purpose of addressing student deficits.
