About this role
As a Housekeeping Assistant, you learn from the team the standards of cleanliness, comfort, and guest care required in a busy hotel. You will learning how to prepare guest rooms, service public areas, support laundry operations, and ensure a welcoming environment throughout the hotel. This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. Formal Training: • Health & Safety Training • Manual Handling Certification • Chemical Safety & COSHH Awareness • Infection Control Procedures • Customer Service Essentials • Fire Safety & Evacuation Training Informal Training: • Guest Room Preparation — Bed making, linen changes, restocking amenities, and room presentation standards. • Public Area Cleaning — Maintaining lobbies, corridors, restrooms, and function spaces. • Laundry Operations — Sorting, washing, drying, pressing, and linen rotation. • Use of Housekeeping Equipment — Vacuum cleaners, trolleys, steamers, and other tools. • Teamwork & Communication — Working effectively with supervisors, reception, and maintenance teams. • Time Management & Task Prioritisation — Organising daily workloads in a fast paced environment. • Hotel Standards & Quality Checks — Understanding brand expectations and completing room check procedures. • Guest Interaction Skills — Greeting guests, responding to requests, and maintaining professionalism.
