Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and well-motivated therapist to join the countywide Worcestershire Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service, working 37.5 hours a week over 5 days.
You will be integral to the continued development of this Service into a high performing, well respected provider of timely, safe and effective Speech and Language Therapy, therefore we require an ambitious, enthusiastic and creative individual who is self-driven and who also works well within a team.
You will work across out-patient clinics and community hospital wards where you will be supported through your RCSLT mentoring programme by senior therapists and will be given the opportunity to commence training in achieving your dysphagia competences as well as other relevant continued professional development.
You will receive excellent management and peer supervision.
There is potential for some working from home, and we are happy to consider requests for flexible working to suit both the service and the individual.
Main duties of the job
A typical day may involve working face to face in a clinic, hospital or domiciliary setting, or from home using telehealth or carrying out clinical or other admin tasks.
You will work independently in the assessment and treatment of clients with communication disorders under the guidance of more senior colleagues, writing reports and completing clinical documentation on our electronic notes system.
You will formulate individual therapy programmes targeting realistic patient-led goals, as well as offering support and education to carers/families.
You will attend MDTs and other clinical and service meetings.
You will provide training to colleagues on a formal or informal basis.
You will receive training and supervision and will engage in self-directed learning.

You will work in a variety of community settings including clinics, hospitals and patients homes to provide assessment, diagnosis and full case management of adult patients with speech, language, voice, fluency and swallowing difficulties
Newly Qualified Practitioners will work towards achieving RCSLT NQP and dysphagia competencies
You will be responsible for managing a defined caseload with guidance as required
Following your patient assessment, you will be responsible for providing appropriate intervention and evaluating outcomes
You will communicate complex condition-related information to patients, carers and members of the MDT
You will demonstrate clinical knowledge and effectiveness by the use of evidence-based practice
You will adhere to National and Local standards and guidelines relating to professional practice

Qualifications Essential
Degree, or equivalent, giving eligibility to practise as a Speech and Language Therapist HCPC Registration RCSLT membership I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.
Knowledge Essential
Up to date knowledge of assessment, treatment and case management for adult clients with communication and voice disorders and dysphagia Evidence of a clear awareness and understanding of current national, local, professional and clinical initiatives and developments as relevant to this post Demonstrable knowledge of the work of relevant organisations within the voluntary sector in the support of adults with acquired communication disorders and/or dysphagia
Experience Essential
Demonstrable experience within inpatient and outpatient settings of independent assessment, treatment, and case management of adults with a range of communication disorders Knowledge and experience of assessment and case management of adults with dysphagia
Desirable
Practical experience in the education/training of others
Skills & Abilities Essential
Good time management Ability to prioritise workload appropriately Practical relevant IT skills
