Applications are invited for the post of Biomedical Support Worker at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will support the delivery of a high quality Point of Care Testing service within Blood Sciences at BTHFT and the newly setup Community Diagnostic Centre(s). The post holder will be part of a team and as such will be expected to work on different sites include Bradford Teaching Hospitals, Eccleshill Community Hospital and other Community sites as required. The post holder will be expected to work with minimum supervision and be responsible for the day to day running of the POCT section.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious person to join an existing team. Previous laboratory experience is essential but further training will be provided to successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

The primary responsibility of the post is to support the POCT team at BTHFT (and all Trust sites including CDC locations) through effective administrative duties, troubleshooting POCT devices, performing quality controls, training other staff, liaising with different stakeholders and evaluating new equipment.

These processes are located within the Blood Sciences department and you will also be a member of that departmental team.

You will have problem solving skills that will allow you to make judgements anddecisions about job related situations.

You will be required to communicate information, some of which may be related to patient management and care, to colleagues, healthcare staff and other organisations.

The post holder will provide an efficient and effective administrative service to the Head of Blood Sciences in delivering the Point of Care Testing. The post holder will work under indirect supervision to perform routine tasks using established protocols and procedure but would also be expected to contribute to delivering training to other staff and writing SOPs .

Experience Essential

Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS laboratory Familiar with laboratory Health & Safety Has some understanding and experience of POCT Experience of working with dry ice Experience of training other staff Able to write SOPs

Skills Essential

Previous experience in administration office duties Willingness to undertake cross training to extend skill set to deliver role Good communication skills, Demonstrable interpersonal skills - can work as part of a team. Ability to supervise less experienced staff, e.g. can demonstrate own work. Ability to concentrate for prolonged periods of time Ability to follow protocols, multitask, use own initiative Manual dexterity appropriate to activities associated with post Good Microsoft excel and word skills Able to work with bodily fluids and hazardous materials

Knowledge Essential

Demonstrable knowledge of a range of routine and non-routine healthcare science duties equivalent to an NVQ level 3/diploma Familiar with the laboratory Health and Safety principles Knowledge of Pathology IT systems Knowledge of Quality Management Systems

Qualifications Essential

European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent GCSE Maths and English (A-C) or equivalent Appropriate NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
