Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, innovative, flexible, and well-motivated Therapy Support Worker to join the North Kerrier Rehabilitation Team primarily working within the Community Rehabilitation team at Camborne-Redruth Hospital. We are looking for someone with a background in rehabilitation who has in interest in both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy to develop their skills in these areas.

Under the umbrella of the North Kerrier Rehab Team, we provide high quality rehabilitation and reablement in the community. This post will be primarily involve visiting patients in their own homes, including care homes.

At times it may also include supporting the team on the Community Assessment and Treatment Unit (CATU) which is an inpatient unit designed to assess patients who need medical, nursing and therapy intervention before being discharged home, aiming for a 48 hour turnaround.

The post holder will treat patients with varied pathologies and presentations, including a wide variety of conditions e.g. neurological, orthopaedic, respiratory, frailty, and falls. Every contact, treatment plan, and working environment are different bringing variety and challenge to each working day.

Weekend working may become an operational part of this role in the future.

Job Overview

The purpose of the post is:

To carry out skilled interventions as delegated by senior Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists This will be primarily be in the community, including the patient's own home but at times in the CATU at Camborne-Redruth Hospital/ other hospital units. This may not be directly supervised by the therapist (e.g. practising mobility / gaining confidence / practising activities of daily living). To monitor the patient's response to therapy intervention and report back on the outcome. To encourage patients and carers in an active approach to regaining and maintaining personal independence. Key Dimensions of the post are:

To contribute to the assessment and treatment of patients seen by the North Kerrier Community Rehabilitation Team. To practice as a lone worker.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications Essential

Good general education (to GCSE or equivalent). NVQ level III qualification in therapy/care or equivalent relevant qualification BTEC National Diploma in relevant area or equivalent relevant qualification. IELTS (unless qualification taken in English)

Experience Essential

Experience of working with older adults and disabled people. Working with people to facilitate learning of skills or gaining of independence Previous work in the community or hospital setting.

Desirable

Experience of working as a lone worker Experience of working using a therapeutic approach.

Skills and Aptitude Essential

Ability to time-manage and prioritise, with the support of supervisor. Good written skills. Ability to empathise when helping to motivate and encourage patients with impairments Ability to demonstrate understanding of disability/impairment. Good computer and clerical skills.

Desirable

Experience in assessment for adaptive equipment/mobility aids.
