The vacancy is at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials which conducts research addressing fundamental properties of functional materials and devices. The research is carried out by means of a number of modern techniques, in particular, by optical spectroscopy which is widely used to characterise novel functional materials. The position constitutes a technical supporting function in a educational and research environment at a university. The laser technician will be responsible for the maintenance of scientific laser systems as well as spectroscopic and microscopic equipment in the Optical Condensed Matter Physics and Optical Spectroscopy of Functional Nanosystems groups. The technician will also take care of daily non-scientific tasks, e.g. ordering parts/goods for laboratory work. The technician will cooperate with other technical personnel within the Zernike Institute by sharing expertise and supporting other groups in lasers and laser applications. The applicant has to take part in educational duties, such as assisting in the design of laser-based experimental setups and in performing spectroscopic and microscopic experiments. The candidate acts as a Laser Safety Officer of the Zernike Institute responsible for safe laser operations in close cooperation with the other Laser Safety Officers and supervisors in the Institute and Faculty.
