Tla'amin NationDirector of EducationThe Tla?amin Nation is a modern, forward-thinking, self-governing nation located on the beautiful upper Sunshine Coast (qathet Region).Position SummaryJob Type: Full-time, permanent Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pmReports to: Chief Administrative Officer Department: Education The Director of Education will manage, develop, implement, and evaluate programs, services, and strategies that benefit Tla?amin Nation learners of all ages. The Director of Education will actively identify and evaluate opportunities to support the education and training goals of Tla?amin people. The role includes leadership and supervision of Education staff and management of the department's human and financial resources.Key ResponsibilitiesPerforms all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla?amin policies, standards, practices and procedures as directed by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to members, clients, students, employees and general matters of the Nation. Education Program Management Provide leadership, direction and support for Tla?amin Nation education programs and services, from early childhood through adult learning. Ensure education programs and services meet the needs and priorities of Tla?amin Nation and its citizens. Develop program plans, oversee approved programs, and monitor their effectiveness, making improvements as needed in consultation with the CAO. Support and provide leadership to the Child Development Resource Centre (CDRC), ?i ??y ?aye (Children?s House), and ??ms ta?ow School. Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, partner organizations, government agencies, school districts, and other external partners to support education, training, and the promotion of Tla?amin culture, language, and heritage. Develop program goals, objectives, and strategies that align with Tla?amin Nation priorities, funding agreements, and strategic plans. Ensure clear and effective communication about education programs, services, and opportunities. Foster community involvement in identifying education needs and evaluating programs and services.Education Department Management Develop and implement annual department work plans that align with funding agreements and Tla?amin Nation?s strategic priorities. Build a collaborative team, structures, and processes that support learning for staff. In collaboration with the Human Resources Department and Education Program Managers, recruits new employees as required and ensures effective orientation and training. Ensure effective communication and ensure employee roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and understood. Manage employee performance and development in alignment with Tla?amin policies and practices, including day-to-day coaching, performance planning and review, employee training and development, performance improvement plans and corrective action as required. Lead and oversee Tla?amin Nation?s educational resources and infrastructure. Ensure employees have the tools and training to carry out their duties.Administration In collaboration with the CAO, develops the annual Education budget. Monitor budgetary income and expenditures and report actuals and variances to the CAO on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly) ensuring that all programs and services operate within approved budget. Delegate, monitor and/or complete appropriate reporting to funders and other stakeholders as required. Keep the legislature updated on Education programs and services.Other related duties as assigned.QualificationsTraining, Education, Experience Master?s degree in education from a recognized Canadian post-secondary program. 5+ years of education experience with progressive responsibilities within Indigenous or community-based contexts.
