About this role

The successful candidate will assist the Resource Conservation team in monitoring the health of the Park ecosystem, assessing the status of species-at-risk, and completing restoration programs. This work involves visiting less-traveled areas of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, both on land and in-water. This opportunity offers a chance to take in scenic views while developing hands-on skills in ecology, conservation biology, and natural resource management. Work duties include: • Surveys of forests, rivers, lakes, and wetlands, including temperature monitoring, assessing tree regeneration, and collecting invertebrates • Surveys of species-at-risk, including Atlantic salmon and bats • Learning to identify local flora and fauna, including trees, ferns, insects, fish, amphibians, birds, and invasive species • Collect biological data from a variety of plants and animals, including handling of live specimens for tagging and genetic sampling • Enter data into computer
