About this role
Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry. Work setting: Cattle feed lot, pig barns. Tasks: Collect samples and perform other laboratory tests. Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery. Prevent and treat lameness by hoof trimming. Assist veterinarian before, during and after surgery. Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian. Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian. Identify livestock. May perform a variety of office management and clerical duties. Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry. Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals. Provide wound and bandage care. Area of specialization: Large animals. Animal training. Security and safety: Bondable.
