At Sturdee Community Hospital, we believe that great food is an essential part of recovery. We are looking for a passionate, reliable and creative Hospital Chef to join our catering team and help provide nutritious, high-quality meals for women receiving specialist mental health rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job About the Role
As Hospital Chef, you will be responsible for planning, preparing and serving balanced, nutritious meals while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, hygiene and quality. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients' dietary, cultural, religious and medical needs are met.
You will also contribute to creating a welcoming dining experience that supports dignity, choice and recovery.

Sturdee Community Hospital is a specialist inpatient mental health rehabilitation hospital providing assessment, treatment and recovery-focused rehabilitation for adult women (18 years and over) with complex and enduring mental health needs. The service supports patients who require a structured therapeutic environment to progress towards greater independence and successful community living.
Job description Job responsibilities Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook high-quality meals in accordance with approved menus.Cater for a variety of dietary requirements, including allergies, texture-modified diets, vegetarian, vegan, halal and therapeutic diets.Maintain excellent food hygiene and infection prevention standards.Ensure compliance with Food Safety legislation and HACCP procedures.Monitor food temperatures and maintain accurate kitchen records.Manage food ordering, stock rotation and storage.Minimise food waste while maintaining quality.Work collaboratively with the Dietitian and clinical teams to support patients' nutritional needs.Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen environment.Supervise and support kitchen assistants where required.Participate in audits and quality improvement initiative

Qualifications Essential
What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who: Has previous experience as a chef or cook, ideally within healthcare, hospitality or care settings. Holds a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 3 desirable). Has excellent knowledge of food safety and allergen management. Can produce nutritious, appetising meals consistently. Is organised, dependable and able to work independently. Has excellent communication and teamwork skills. Understands the importance of dignity, respect and person-centred care. Shares our commitment to delivering outstanding service.

Desirable Experience Previous experience working in a hospital, care home or healthcare environment. Knowledge of therapeutic and modified diets. Experience of catering for large groups. Experience supervising kitchen staff.
