Job summary

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the Craniofacial Team within the Plastic Surgery Department on a fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will be expected to work at ST6 level or above and must demonstrate the clinical competence to manage patients and perform procedures independently, including participation in consultant-level emergency on-call duties.

This position is well suited to an individual aiming to gain further experience in preparation for a consultant role or equivalent. It offers valuable exposure to the specialist field of craniofacial surgery, alongside broader experience in general plastic surgery, hand surgery, oral surgery, and oral and maxillofacial surgery as required.

We are seeking a motivated and career-focused individual with a clear commitment to pursuing a career in Plastic, Oral and Maxillofacial, or ENT Surgery. The appointee will be fully integrated into the department and encouraged to engage in audit, research, and other academic opportunities available within the team

Main duties of the job Leads daily ward rounds, handovers, and junior supervision, while coordinating trauma lists and overseeing both independent and assisted surgical procedures. Provides outpatient care, manages emergency and dental abscess triage, and is responsible for pre- and post-operative patient care. Contributes to on-call rota, supports clinical decision-making with consultants, and is actively involved in teaching, trainee induction, and departmental meetings including trauma and governance.

Competence in performing surgical procedures commensurate with senior trainee (ST6+) level Experience in emergency care and on-call duties, with the ability to work at or near consultant level when required Ability to manage workload and prioritise effectively under pressure

Desirable

Higher degree (e.g. MSc, MD, PhD) or working towards one
