Job Description: Quantum Key Distribution Engineer Position: Quantum Key Distribution Engineer Location: Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg Start Date: Immediate Type: Full-time Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience Company Overview LuxQuantum is a deep-tech startup developing advanced solutions in quantum Cybersecurity. Our mission is to address key challenges in future secure communications by enabling hybrid security architectures that combine Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). Our current R&D efforts focus on the development of a hybrid quantum security combiner designed to integrate PQC and QKD technologies and enable interoperability across heterogeneous quantum communication infrastructures. We are looking for a motivated Quantum Key Distribution Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of next-generation quantum-safe communication technologies. Role Overview As a Quantum Key Distribution Engineer, you will contribute to the development and integration of QKD technologies within hybrid quantum cybersecurity architectures. The role focuses on the implementation, testing, and evaluation of QKD protocols and systems, as well as their integration with post-quantum cryptographic mechanisms. You will work closely with software engineers and cryptography specialists to enable secure hybrid PQC–QKD infrastructures. Key Responsibilities • Design and implement software and system components supporting QKD technologies • Contribute to the integration of QKD systems within hybrid PQC-QKD security architectures • Analyze QKD protocols and system performance in experimental and simulated environments • Support interoperability between QKD systems and classical cryptographic infrastructures • Collaborate with cryptography engineers to enable hybrid key management and orchestration • Perform testing, benchmarking, and validation of QKD system components • Prepare technical documentation and contribute to project deliverables and reports • Monitor developments in QKD technologies, quantum communication networks, and standards Required Qualifications • Strong background in Quantum Key Distribution or quantum communication systems • MSc or PhD in Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field • Knowledge of QKD protocols and quantum communication principles • Experience with quantum communication experiments, simulations, or related software systems • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team • Fluent written and spoken English Preferred Qualifications • Experience with QKD systems, quantum optics, or photonic communication systems • Familiarity with quantum networking or secure communication infrastructures • Experience working in research or R&D environments • Knowledge of quantum communication standards and interoperability challenges • Interest in hybrid quantum cybersecurity architectures What We Offer • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge quantum cybersecurity technologies • Participation in an innovative deep-tech startup environment • Collaboration with academic and research partners in the quantum technology ecosystem • Direct impact on the development of next-generation quantum communication infrastructures How to Apply If you are passionate about quantum communication technologies and quantum-safe security systems, we encourage you to apply.
