About this role

The DLR Institute of Space Research is a world-leading competence centre for optical sensor systems and their use in planetary research, Earth observation and security. In this way, we are expanding humanity's understanding of the formation and development of our planetary system and finding solutions to protect life on Earth. With around 300 employees, we cover the entire development chain from the research idea to the design, construction and verification of instruments and their operational use, right through to the processing, scientific analysis and archiving of the data obtained.

What to expect

As part of the Envision (ESA) and VERITAS (NASA/JPL) space missions, an optical instrument for studying Venus is being developed at the DLR Institute of Space Research. The key component is a SWIR detector of a type previously unseen in spaceflight, for which electronics are being developed for data readout and control.

For this, we require support with the implementation of algorithms in the FPGA, which serves as the central component for processing detector data. There is an opportunity to undertake an intership (Master’s/Bachelor’s).

Your tasks

Implementation of specific algorithms in FPGAs using VHDL

Verification of the implementation and validation on the hardware

Adaptation to the FPGA architecture

Development of test software

Documentation of test results

Your profile

Currently studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electronics

Knowledge of FPGA development in VHDL

Programming skills in C/C++ and Python

Proficiency in spoken and written German and English

We offer

The DLR is committed to diversity, respect and equality for all.
