Typical duties may include: </span></p> <ul> <li><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Manages, oversees and coordinates all facets of the construction phase of a school facility project including mobilization, construction, and closeout. </span></li> <li><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Plans, organizes, directs and reports project management activities and progress to upper management. </span></li> <li><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Coordinates with all pertinent public agencies during construction to comply with all off-site work. </span></li> <li><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Manages both the project budget and schedule to meet the District’s qualitative standards. </span></li> <li><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Performs day-to-day contract administration including assisting the Senior Project Managers in bid analysis, pre-construction meetings and related award coordinating activities. </span></li> </ul></div></div><div style="padding:10.0px 0.0px;border:1.0px solid transparent"><div style="font-size:16.0px;word-wrap:break-word"><H2 style="font-size:1.0em;margin:0.0px"><u><b>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS</b></u></H2> </div><div><p><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><strong><span style="color:black"><span style="color:#b80000">PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED.</span> </span>You must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation. Laid-off employees' eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for promotional career opportunities may not be eligible to complete the assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.</strong></span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>Education:</strong> Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or business administration. Possession of a valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential may be substituted for the required education. </span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>Experience:</strong> Five years experience in project/construction management of commercial and/or public/educational facility construction with <strong>full responsibility*</strong> for coordinating complex projects ranging in construction value from $8M and above is required. </span></p> <p><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>*RCE Experience Interpretation:</strong> For the purpose of this selection process, the term "full responsibility" is interpreted to mean MANAGING complex projects including at least 5 yearsof being primarily responsible for ALL of the following activities. </span></p> <ul> <li><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Preconstruction planning including constructability reviews, preparing bid and award documents, estimating and construction scheduling.</span></li> <li><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Reviewing contracts for construction including negotiating change orders and managing on-site construction.</span></li> <li><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Obtaining appropriate approvals from governing agencies (i.e. Division of the State Architect), deliver of completed construction projects to operations, and closing out projects.</span></li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">The following work experience is preferable: </span></p> <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) </span></li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Experience with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS) </span></li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Experience with Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction/design processes </span></li> </ul> <p style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"> </p> <p><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>Special:</strong> Either of the following are preferable: A valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer by the California State Board of Registration of Civil and Professional Engineers, or; A valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential by the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI). S/he will have a strong track record of providing work direction and guidance to lower-level project managers, coordinating with contractors and public agencies, and solving complex problems while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. With a deep understanding of public contract law, DSA processes, and school construction practices, the ideal candidate will be skilled in negotiating change orders, managing fiscal resources, and ensuring the successful completion of projects on time and within budget.
