About the role

Are you ready to lead and coordinate the operations that keep a digital department running efficiently?

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Digital, Data & Technology (DDaT) Cyber Security team in a pivotal role ensuring security tooling operates smoothly and evolves to meet emerging security threats, to support the strategic goals of the University.

As Security Engineer, you will be responsible for administration of security platforms, tooling and related infrastructure within the department. You will work closely with the Principal Cyber Security Architect and Cyber Security team, managing and developing the platforms and tools used to support our security posture management. You’ll need to engage confidently with other technical teams within DDaT and the wider university building trust and ensuring effective collaboration across the organisation.

You will also work in a Security Operations capacity, providing incident response.

In this role, you will:

Manage security platforms including SIEM/SOAR and vulnerability management tools. Manage Cyber Security owned servers (Windows and Linux). Develop and enhance our existing cyber security tooling to improve security posture and capabilities. Liaise with technical colleagues within the university on security engineering best practice.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

Has proven experience managing security tooling, systems and common server operating systems. Has experience in managing security appliances such as firewalls, vulnerability management tools, Security Incident and Event Monitoring/Security Orchestration and Response tools. Is confident managing competing priorities and implementing effective governance and reporting processes. Works proactively, with sound judgement and excellent communication skills when engaging a wide range of stakeholders

This role is offered on a fixed-term, full-time (36.5 hours per week) basis, with an expected end date of 31 December 2026.
