About this role

Collective response in an ensemble of atoms can lead to the phenomenon of Superradiance and subradiance states. These are quantum effects and can arise due to strong interactions among atoms of the ensemble. Superradiance causes enhanced emission due to constructive interference and the emission behaviour scales as the square of the number of atoms. However, subradiance can dramatically inhibit or slows down emission through destructive interference. This leads to a dark state which can be used for storage and quantum information processing. We are interested to study and explore these phenomena in an ensemble of ultra cold strontium atoms. We plan to extend the case to 3D lattices. As a PhD student, you will be joining a strong team of PostDocs and PhDs, with state-of-art research facilities.
