Invicta Health has a vacancy for a GP Consultant at St James Surgery.
St James Surgery is based in the seaside town of Dover, famous for its white cliffs and its strategic gateway to Europe. They are situated a short stones throw away from the beach and close to the historic Dover Castle. They are a thriving practice, supported by their patient population of circa 9000.
St James Surgery is warm and friendly with a robust multi-disciplinary team, which includes Nurse Practitioners and a Clinical Pharmacist. The multi disciplinary team is supported by an experienced administration team who handle referrals, prescriptions, reports and other general tasks.
St James is one of seven GP practices that sit under Invicta Health. We are a well known community interest company, devoted to supporting and improving primary care in the Kent area.
Main duties of the job
The role involves working collaboratively with GP Consultant colleagues, the Invicta Health leadership team, and practice staff to ensure the highest possible standards of patient care. The postholder will provide clinical oversight, leadership, and direction for the site, with a particular focus on supporting and developing the GP and Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) workforce. This role requires a visible on-site clinical leadership presence, ensuring accessibility to all staff for advice, guidance, and decision-making to support the safe and effective operation of the practice. The postholder will also work in partnership with wider health and social care providers to deliver safe, integrated, and patient-centred services. In addition, the role includes active engagement in local and national initiatives to support the development of sustainable, high-quality healthcare provision.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Service Delivery
Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and oversight of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.
Be a visible and accessible clinical leader on-site, offering advice, guidance, and support to all staff groups.
Demonstrate adaptability and strong leadership in responding to operational pressures, risks, and unforeseen challenges.
Work alongside the site management team to resolve operational issues and implement practical, patient-focused solutions.
Actively contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives across the practice.
Promote and embed best practice across clinical teams to improve patient outcomes and service efficiency.
Clinical Governance & Quality
Work collaboratively with senior management to maintain robust clinical governance systems.
Lead on GP and ACP-related incidents, complaints, and significant event analysis.
Ensure high standards of clinical care through monitoring, audit, and peer review processes.
Lead and support:
Clinical audits Development and implementation of clinical protocols Maintenance of safe and effective clinical policies and procedures High standards of clinical record keeping and documentation Provide clinical oversight and support for safeguarding processes at site level.
Workforce Leadership & Management
Provide line management and clinical leadership to salaried GPs and ACPs/ANPs, including:
One-to-one meetings Probation reviews Annual appraisals Sickness and performance management Support HR and Quality teams in managing performance or conduct concerns, including involvement in formal processes where required.
Ensure appropriate systems are in place for:
Appraisal and revalidation Job planning Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Lead on recruitment and induction of GPs and ACPs.
Provide leadership and oversight for locum GPs and ACPs.
Supervise non-medical prescribers to ensure safe prescribing practices.
Undertake clinical note audits, particularly for ACPs, to ensure quality and consistency of care.
Organisational & Strategic Contribution
Engage in broader organisational work, including the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Participate in central clinical governance and primary care functions to ensure consistency across the organisation.
Act as a key liaison with Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and external partners.
Contribute to education and training initiatives where required.
Identify opportunities to influence service development at local and national levels.
Operational & Financial Responsibilities
Work in partnership with the site management team to support the effective and efficient running of the site.
Contribute to financial awareness and resource management, supporting value-for-money decision-making.
GP Element
In accordance with the job plan as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery face to face, telephone and online consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
Providing counselling and health education
Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of consultations using the EMIS clinical systems.
Completion of medical reports (including NHS and private services as required)
To help coordinate the clinical administrative work (results, Docman, reports, etc.).
To provide clinical support to other members of staff, both clinical and administrative, in achieving the highest possible standards of care and QOF and Enhanced Services targets.
To engage and, where necessary, oversee new projects, for example video linked consultations.
To support other clinical staff in their training and educational needs.
Prescribe according to national and local evidence-based guidelines.
Maintain appropriate professional standards as defined nationally by the General Medical Council and in relevant locally agreed standards specific to the service.
Comply with local pathways and standards of clinical care.
Maintain skills and knowledge relevant to primary care.
Regularly review educational needs of the Personal Development Plan & appraisal.
Attend appropriate educational events to maintain or develop skills.
Ensure knowledge of, and compliance with, appropriate policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Participate in training, significant event analysis, audit, or other meetings as appropriate.
Participate in data collection and audit of clinical pathways and services and patient safety & care quality standards

Qualifications Essential
A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003 Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983 Qualified General Practitioner (completed certificate of Completion of Training CCT) Currently on a performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register Vocational Training certificate or certificate/experience of equivalence Current BLS and Safeguarding certification Current Hep B Immunity certificate
