About this role

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a busy, dynamic British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) accredited echocardiogram department in the centre of the vibrant city of Bristol. This role is to cover maternity leave and is fixed term.

This is an opportunity to experience working in a tertiary centre setting, with exposure to a range of complex pathologies including Adult Congenital Heart Disease patients, complex valve lesions and Inherited Cardiac Conditions. Preferences at interview will be taken into account.

Applicants should hold the BSE transthoracic echocardiography accreditation or EACVI accreditation , be competent to issue independent reports and provide teaching for medical and non-medical staff. Applicants without accreditation are at a disadvantage.

The post holder may be required to work flexibly at multiple sites in at Weston General Hospital, and will be expected to cover Saturday shifts and Bank Holidays on a pro rata basis.

Main duties of the job

Perform and report adult transthoracic studies to meet British Society of Education and internal guidelines.

Perform and report a range of complex studies, to include adult congenital heart disease , inherited cardiac conditions, pre and post operative studies to include TAVi, Mitraclip and Tendyne studies. Support for this will be provided.

To train other sonographers and health care professionals to perform echocardiograms.

To be fully involved in quality improvement processes.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training Essential

Adult transthoracic BSE accreditation or equivalent (B7) BSc with honours undergraduate degree in physiology or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience Essential

NHS experience or similar working environment

ACHD experience Stress echo experience Research experience

Skills and Abilities Essential

Excellent IT skills, especially of microsoft and GE products Dexterity with ultrasound probes to attain best possible imaging Excellent use of English language Skillful interpretation of cardiac anatomy Skillful knowledge of the ranges of normal findings of cardiac anatomy Awareness of own limitations, and the limitations of the overall role
