Job summary Clinical Fellow in the department of Paediatric Oncology & Haematology
We are inviting applications to fill our Clinical Fellow vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Paediatric Oncology & Haematology. This post will commence August 2026 and is fixed term for 1 year.
Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice by the intended start date.
Main duties of the job An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Paediatrician (ST6 or above) with an interest in Paediatric Haematology & Oncology to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Children's Hospital, as a Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Fellow for a period of 12 months commencing August 2026. This post would be suitable for a trainee requesting an Out of Programme Pause from training who would like to train in the care of Children and Young People with Haematological or Oncological conditions or to a post-CCT doctor keen to gain further competency in Paediatric Haematology with a specific focus on stem cell transplant. The previous post holder has been appointed to a consultant position.

Why you should join our Team All of Leeds Tertiary Paediatric Services are based at the Leeds Children's Hospital, which is one of the largest specialist facilities for Children in the UK and offers regional and supra-regional expertise. The Children's Teenage and Young Adult Haematology and Oncology Service has won national awards and is a dynamic clinical, training and research unit.
We are a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of doctors, specialist nurses, dietitians, clinical psychologists, play therapists and youth workers.
What you will bring to the role The Paediatric Haematology Fellow role will include:
Providing the day-to-day care of the Paediatric and Young Adult Haematology inpatients, especially those under the care of the Stem Cell Transplant Team. They will be supported in this by the Consultants, the Trainee Doctors, the Advanced Clinical Practitioners and a Trust Grade Doctor for the in-patient unit.
They will see patients attending acutely to the day unit supported by the Advanced Clinical Practitioners and the Trainee Doctors.
They will participate in the clinics and day care service supported by Consultants and two other Speciality Doctors.
Share responsibility for the general anaesthetic lists carrying out Haematological Procedures (typically lumbar punctures and bone marrow examinations)
Support the Stem Cell Transplant Team with Administrative Tasks
They will participate in the multi-professional Paediatric Haematology and Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant Clinical Governance Programmes.
The appointee will participate in the Children's Hospital Paediatric Haematology HST rota which currently involves one twilight shift and one weekend on a 1:L4 5 rota covering Paediatric Haematology and Oncology patients only. This is to assist the Specialist Paediatric LST and HST who will also be covering the wards and will be supported by the on call consultant in Haematology and Oncology.
