About this role
The Business Development Manager will lead and manage a dynamic team responsible for the development and delivery of income-generating business development activities across research and innovation grants, CPD opportunities, tendering for commercial research and innovation contracts, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), and other strategic research-aligned partnerships. You will be expected to play an active part in the Business Development, Research and Innovation (BDRI) management team helping to shape policy and procedures in light of the changing environment in the sector.
As a Business Development Manager, you can expect to be involved in :
Leading the business development team coaching and mentoring individuals to promote best practice and providing clear direction for the team to deliver end-to-end processes for business development. Promoting collaborative working to enable prioritization of workflow and staff development in personal and technical skill sets. Working closely with the Director of BDRI to design and deliver a coordinated business development strategy that supports the University's research and innovation priorities and meets institutional KPIs in relation to income generation. Overseeing the development and delivery of a pipeline of business opportunities, ensuring strong alignment with academic strengths and institutional priorities. Leading engagement with external stakeholders - such as industry, public sector bodies, and funders - to generate new collaborations and diversify income streams.
What will you bring to the role ?
Degree in a relevant field and/or appropriate administration qualification, or relevant demonstrable experience in business development, innovation, or commercial strategy Proven experience of developing and delivering business development strategies in a complex organization Demonstratable experience of managing, motivating and leading staff Experience of managing external partners and income generation activities such as tendering, grant applications and CPD offers.
