We currently have a vacancy for a Band 4 Dental Nurse: 22.5 hours / Working days to be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Based at HMP Birmingham.
As a Dental Nurse at HMP Birmingham you will support dentists and other dental professionals in delivering dental care to prisoners within a secure environment.
The role combines clinical dental nursing duties with prison security procedures.
You will be required to-
Account for dental instruments and equipment before and after clinics.
Work closely with prison officers during prisoner movement and appointments.
Be aware of safeguarding, security risks, and emergency procedures.
Support the safe running and security of the dental department.
Attend additional security training and strict adherence to prison protocols.
The working Environment will require regular interaction with prisoners under escort.
You will also be required to work across the Community Dental Services when not required at HMP Birmingham, you will be allocated to Attwood Green Health Centre,B15 1LZ
Work flexibly within the Community Dental Service, across all localities.
Main duties of the job
Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.
- To prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post operative instructions as required.
- To undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arrange any necessary repairs as required.
- To ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
- To provide chair side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.
- To provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician
- To assist the Senior Dental Nurse and Specialty Nurses in the smooth running of the Dental service.
- To support and assist clinicians including all student disciplines.
- To support and supervise all apprentice nurses, undergraduate groups.
