Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Advanced Practice team as an 8a Advanced Nurse Practitioner within the Paediatric Emergency Department at North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust. Applications will be accepted from paediatric qualified advanced practitioners and trainees advanced practitioners who have or are due to complete the master's in advanced practice Paediatric course and have trained / been supervised within Urgent and Emergency care. You will be joining a highly motivated Paediatric Emergency Department team where you will continue to grow and develop in your role alongside the wider clinical / nursing and leadership teams.

Our Paediatric Emergency Department service we are dedicated to learning, leading innovation and service development in response to our patients / families / carers and system level demands, to enhance our patient experience and provide sustainability to the Paediatric Emergency Department and the wider organisation.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Advanced (Nurse) Practitioner (AP) in the Emergency Department will play a critical role inproviding expert clinical care to children and young people presenting with urgent and emergency conditionswithin scope practice. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the AP will deliver high-quality, evidence-basedcare, offering advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients within thePaediatric ED within scope of practice.The role also involves leadership, education, and service development responsibilities, with a focus onimproving patient outcomes, enhancing team capability, and ensuring that clinical practices meet the lateststandards and guidelines. The post-holder will work autonomously and collaboratively with consultants, resident doctors, advancedpractitioners and nurses, to provide a safe, efficient, and child-centred service, applying policies/guidelinesand evidence-based practice. The post holder will also provide expert advice delivering the four pillars of advanced practice, clinical,leadership, education, research and supervision, support, and mentorship for multidisciplinary professionalsincluding trainee, APs, and clinical nursing.Advanced clinical practice is designed to transform and modernise pathways of care, enabling safe andeffective sharing of skills across traditional professional boundaries (NHSE, 2025).

eXPERIENCE Essential

oRegistered Nurse oExtensive experience with Emergency Medicine Pediatric as an advanced practitioner. oLine Management experience within an advanced practice team / team management activity oEvidence of report writing and presentation skills.

Qualifications Essential

oRegistered Professional NMC oProfessional registration qualification. oFull completed master's degree in advanced clinical practice (or Advanced Practice status through completion of the NHSE e-portfolio process, with digital badge confirmation) oTrainee advanced practitioner applications who are due to qualify having undertaken paediatric specific AP MSc, will be considered. oSpecialist clinical courses completed. oEvidence of continued professional development. oV300 independent non-medical prescriber

Desirable

oGood understanding of the training and development needs of trainee advanced practitioners oLeadership qualification oAdvanced Paediatric Life Support provider oFormal Teaching Qualification

Skills, knowledge and competentices Essential

High complex reasoning and prioritisation skills, across clinical and staffing requirements with advanced practice in the department. Highly experienced at disseminating and presenting complex information using both verbal and written disciplines across a broad range of clinical and non clinical activities. Request diagnostic tests within scope of practice and interpret the findings acting accordingly. High level portfolio of evidence across all four pillars of advanced practice. High attention to clinical details and accuracy. Highly developed interpersonal skills with evidence to support this.

Desirable

Evidence of supporting and supervising trainee advanced practitioners. Demonstrate published research and audit skills both at local and national level.
