About this role
Drive cooking technology performance as our new Product Specialist
Are you an engineer with experience in cooking technology who wants to take a broader technical role? Join a position where you work close to real industrial applications and influence how cooking technology performs across our customer plants.
As our new Product Specialist, you take responsibility for understanding and improving the full cooking process, from process conditions to equipment behavior. You collaborate with R&D, Sales, Delivery and Service to solve concrete customer challenges, improve existing installations, and contribute to the development of our technology.
You will be part of a skilled and committed team that develops concepts, drives improvements, and supports customers in a global environment. This role is ideal for someone with hands on experience from pulping or cooking who wants to move closer to product development and technical decision making.
Your responsibilities
• You act as a technical expert in cooking technology, supporting Sales, projects and Service in solving customer challenges.
• You analyze plant performance and work with both process conditions and equipment behavior to improve results.
• You contribute to development of rebuilds, upgrades and improvements in existing cooking plants.
• You participate in delivery projects and troubleshooting, ensuring strong technical execution in real cases.
• You identify and prioritize improvement opportunities based on operational experience and customer needs.
What we expect from you
• You have solid experience from pulping, specifically within cooking technology or closely related areas.
• You hold a degree in Process, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or have equivalent experience.
• You understand how digesters, process conditions and equipment interact in a plant environment.
• You have worked with real operational or project challenges, not only theoretical design.
• You communicate fluently in Swedish and English.
• Some travel is required as a natural part of the work.
To succeed in this role, you will require the following:
You understand how cooking technology works in practice and can connect process behavior with equipment performance. You use your experience from plant operations, projects, or technical support to identify practical solutions and improvements. You are comfortable taking ownership, working across functions, and contributing to both short term problem solving and long term product development together with R&D, Delivery and Service teams.
We also expect you to align with Valmet’s Leadership Principles - practical behaviors that guide how we lead, collaborate, and succeed together:
• Take accountability – Act with ownership, set clear expectations, and follow through
• Lead with courage – Champion change, try bold ideas, and learn quickly
• Build on trust – Listen to understand, be open, and create psychological safety
• Collaborate for growth – Work across boundaries, value diverse perspectives, and focus on customer value
We offer
ou will join a dedicated and highly skilled product management team of eight engineers working in a technically advanced environment with a strong focus on performance, safety, and quality. The team develops concepts, supports global projects, and collaborates closely with R&D, giving you the chance to influence both technology and the future direction of cooking solutions. You will also interact daily with colleagues across Sales, Delivery, Service and other departments, as Karlstad is Valmet’s largest site in Sweden with around 750 employees.
Valmet offers an inspiring and dynamic workplace with opportunities for learning and career development. You will benefit from flexible working hours, modern tools, and a supportive environment that values wellbeing, growth and collaboration.
