Job Description: Assistant Librarian (Part Time)
The Island Private School of Limassol is seeking an inspiring and collaborative Part-Time Assistant Librarian (Part Time) to support our whole-school learning community across all educational programmes. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering a love of reading, supporting inquiry and research skills, and managing a vibrant, inclusive library environment that enhances teaching and learning. This role plays a key part in promoting literacy, information skills, and student engagement
Responsibilities
Engagement and School Community
• Act as a positive ambassador for the mission, vision, and values of The Island Private School of Limassol.
• Create a welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating library environment that supports student well-being and curiosity.
• Promote a love of reading for pleasure, research, and lifelong learning.
• Build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents to encourage active use of the library.
• Support a consistent language environment by modeling high standards of communication.
Curriculum Support and Collaboration
• Collaborate with teachers across all programmes to support curriculum delivery through library resources.
• Support students in developing research, referencing, and digital literacy skills.
• Curate a diverse and inclusive collection of resources that reflect a wide range of cultures, perspectives, and subjects.
Teaching and Learning Support
• Plan and deliver engaging library sessions for individuals, small groups, or classes as required.
• Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and independent learning through reading and research activities.
• Support differentiated learning needs across a range of age groups and abilities.
• Organize reading initiatives, themed activities, and literacy events to promote a strong reading culture.
Library and Resource Management
• Maintain and develop the library collection, including cataloging, classification, and regular review of resources.
• Ensure accessibility of both print and digital resources for all learners.
• Utilize library management systems and digital tools to enhance efficiency and user experience.
Assessment and Reporting
• Support teachers in monitoring and developing students’ research and information literacy skills.
• Contribute, where appropriate, to discussions around student progress and learning support.
Professional and Community Engagement
• Collaborate with teaching staff and school leadership to align library services with school priorities.
• Engage with parents and the wider community through literacy initiatives and events.
• Stay informed about current trends in library services, literacy, and educational technology.
Additional Duties
• Supervise students within the library and related learning spaces.
• Support school events, projects, and initiatives as appropriate for a part-time role.
• Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science, Education, or a related field.
• Previous experience in a school or educational library setting is preferred.
• Experience supporting multiple curricula or educational programmes is an advantage.
Skills and Attributes
• Passion for reading, literacy, and student learning.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, especially in a part-time capacity.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Competence in using digital tools and library systems.
• A proactive and flexible approach to supporting a dynamic school environment.
• Fluent in English (C1–C2).
Working Hours: Monday - Friday 12:00 pm - 17:00 pm
