The University of Oxford, Sub-department of Astrophysics invites applications for an Intelligence Engineer.

This role focuses on building cutting-edge AI systems for radio astronomy and techno signature research. You will play a key part in transforming raw research data into actionable datasets and developing small, purpose-built open-source models to advance our scientific capabilities. In this role, you will have access to the world’s most powerful astronomical facilities and a global network of collaborators conducting the most sensitive, intensive and comprehensive search for evidence of advanced life in the universe.

Breakthrough Listen is headquartered in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford, under the leadership of Principal Investigator Dr Andrew Siemion. Listen's interdisciplinary research has synergies with many of the department's research priorities, including exoplanet studies, machine learning, cutting-edge radio instrumentation and digital signal processing, citizen science, sky surveys, and studies of transient and variable objects. Listen is deeply involved with the department's educational mission, including through the supervision of undergraduate and graduate student researchers.

Applicants should hold a first degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related field. Previous experience with experience developing, deploying and working with large, complex and multi-modal datasets will be an advantage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.

The post is full time and fixed term for 2 years subject to funding.
