Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Metal product fabrication industry. Sheet metal shop. Tasks: Check products for correct shapes, dimensions and other specifications. Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment. Cut, bend, roll, ream, punch, drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products. Investigate problems to fix or make minor repair. Lay out, set up and operate one or more light or heavy metalworking machines. Operate presses or other forging machines to perform hot or cold forging to shape or form metal. Position and adjust dies on anvil of forging machinery. Read and interpret specifications or follow verbal instructions. Equipment and machinery experience: Brakes. Power presses. Shears. Use computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Hand tools. Brakes and presses. Press brakes and metalworking equipment. Metal forming or shaping operations experience: Bending. Flattening. Forming. Straightening. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Fast-paced environment. Hand-eye co-ordination. Repetitive tasks. Standing for extended periods. Work under pressure.
