About this role
The Head of Laboratory is responsible for the planning, establishment, and overall management of the Hospital Medical Laboratory. This includes day-to-day operations, strategic planning, quality systems implementation, cost management, and staff supervision to ensure the laboratory delivers timely, accurate, and cost-effective diagnostic services that meet hospital needs and accreditation standards.
Strategic & Operational Leadership:
• Lead and oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality diagnostic services. • Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with company direction and business growth. • Monitor operational KPIs, turnaround times (TAT), test volumes, productivity, and client satisfaction. • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the daily operations of the laboratory to ensure effective and efficient service delivery. Quality & Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards (ISO 15189, MSQH, etc.). • Oversee and participate in internal audits, external assessments, and proficiency testing programs. • Promote a strong culture of quality and patient safety throughout the laboratory team. • Ensure the maintenance and periodic review of SOPs, risk registers, HIRARC, and quality indicators. Human Resource Management:
• Lead, mentor, and evaluate a multidisciplinary team of laboratory professionals including scientists, MLTs, and support staff. • Ensure appropriate staffing levels, competencies, and training to support service needs. • Foster staff engagement, career development, and succession planning. • Oversee the implementation of orientation, in-service training, and continuing education programs. Financial & Resource Management:
• Develop and manage the laboratory’s operational budget in alignment with corporate financial goals. • Monitor cost-effectiveness and support initiatives for revenue generation and cost control. • Oversee procurement, maintenance, and lifecycle management of laboratory equipment and supplies. Innovation & Client Relations:
• Support the introduction of new technologies, tests, and digital solutions to enhance service capabilities. • Liaise with clinicians, clients, and referral partners to ensure responsiveness to clinical needs and service excellence. • Address client feedback, complaints, and incident investigations with professionalism and accountability.
