Hyster-Yale Materials Handling Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Test Technician I-III based at our Counterbalance Development Center in Portland, Oregon.

Level placement is based on experience, technical expertise, and scope of responsibility

What you will do:

Level I

• Master of Automotive/Industrial repair, diagnostics and associated technology

• Carry out established test procedures independently and report results.

• Fabricate test fixtures/stands, and prototype parts without guidance per design specs.

• Maintain logs, communicate test outcomes, and assist with data acquisition setup and troubleshoot, as necessary.

• Complete assigned project tasks and meet deadlines without supervision.

Level II

• Master of Automotive/Industrial repair, diagnostics and associated technology

• Design and build test fixtures, prototype parts and test stands

• Analyze and interpret test results and prepare summary reports.

• Recommend actions based on technical findings and test data.

• Participate in cross-functional problem solving and design reviews.

• Support test equipment selection, calibration, setup, diagnostics, and teardown.

• Guide and mentor junior technicians and assist in test planning and project prioritization.

Level III

• Master of Automotive/Industrial repair, diagnostics and associated technology

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate comprehensive test programs in alignment with project goals.

• Lead test execution, analyze data, and report results across multiple development initiatives.

• Lead and coordinate test equipment selection, calibration, setup, diagnostics, and teardown.

• Develop, refine, and improve test procedures, fixtures, equipment, and shop processes for vehicle development.

• Serve as a technical liaison and provide advanced consultation and training to engineers, technicians, and external partners.

• Drive improvements in testing efficiency, quality, engineering standards, and mentor technical staff.

What you will need:

Level I

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in a relevant field preferred or equivalent certifications.

• Experience: 5+ years of relevant mechanical or testing experience.

Level II

• Education: Associate degree in a relevant field required; additional accredited certifications preferred.

• Experience: 7+ years of relevant experience.

Level III

• Education: Associate degree in a relevant field required; additional accredited certifications strongly preferred.

• Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience.

Skills, Experience & Abilities

• Welding, machining, and fabrication experience.

• Strong mechanical aptitude with vehicle, lift truck, or heavy equipment repair.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.

• Experience with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel preferred reporting and data analysis).

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerances, and quality standards.

• Ability to safely operate lift trucks and related equipment.

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred:

• Experience with CAN systems, sensors, and vehicle communication protocols.

• Advanced troubleshooting of DC/AC electrical systems.

• Experience leading tests, mentoring others, or coordinating project activities.
