Description of Post

Candidates are invited to apply for the role of Assistant Lecturer in Quantity Surveying. It is expected that the assistant lecturer will teach fundamental quantity surveying modules primarily on the 3-year BSc and the 4-year ab-initio BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying.

The assistant lecturer may also be required to teach on the Level 7 and Level 8 programmes in Construction Management, Fire Safety Engineering, Building Engineering with Renewable Energy and Architectural Technology, as well as other part-time courses in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction.

The assistant lecturer will join an enthusiastic team engaging in collaborative learning on an integrated BIM project as well as other shared modules across the range of disciplines. Pedagogic staff development is encouraged, and cognate qualification progression is also supported. Part of the lectureship responsibility will involve research and supporting research growth in the Department. It is expected that the candidate will bring a strong interest and capacity for research in a rapidly evolving field.

Please note: The postholder will be based at the ATU Donegal, Letterkenny Campus.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum

An Honours Degree (2.2 or higher) in Quantity Surveying or similar built environment discipline relevant Level 8 degree [as specified in the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)], or equivalent. Three years relevant post-qualification experience.

Desirable

Experience of measurement using recognised methods of measurement and pre and post contract practice including pricing, tendering, procurement methods, contract procedure, administration and organisation. A Post-graduate (Level 9) qualification or master’s degree in quantity surveying, or other relevant area. Understanding of the principals of ICMS3 and life cycle costing with awareness of emerging industry and government requirements in construction project delivery. Understanding of discounting and forecasting costs, operational and maintenance cost management. Knowledge of contract law, dispute mitigation and resolution and the legal and ethical frameworks guiding the delivery of construction projects. Knowledge and experience using specialist measurement software and other compatible BIM software. Familiarity with legal and contractual frameworks including private sector and public works contracts. Chartered membership of a relevant professional body. Relevant teaching and research experience. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work in teams.
