About this role
Job summary
We are looking for a new salaried GP to join our democratic and forward-thinking practice. You will bring a commitment to serve our varied population, and will have the opportunity to play a full role in all aspects of the practice.
We currently have four GP partners, as well as three salaried GPs, plus an excellent nursing team and strong support staff. This includes a clinical support team (CST) who oversee our delivery of local and national targets. CST also undertake most of the processing of clinical correspondence and work to minimise the admin burden on GPs.
We now want to add to the team of salaried GPs, using new funding from the GP reimbursement scheme. This will boost our capacity to offer same day and routine appointments to patients (although we already see 89% of patients categorised as urgent on the day).
We are a co-operative team, with a focus on shared learning and development, including an active mentoring programme. We want all our clinicians to have a good work-life balance and an enjoyable working day.
Main duties of the job
The job description and person specification set out the formal requirements and criteria. But we'd sum up the main duty of the role as: being an engaged, open and professional member of the St Martins team, working to improve health outcomes for our patients in line with our practice philosophy...
We prioritise provision of health care over financial gain
We operate an open door, accepting all patients in our area
We believe that patients and carers are partners in healthcare
Well explore all options for reconciliation and will only remove a patient if these are exhausted
We challenge all forms of discrimination
We balance national clinical standards, and local need
We do not accept money, gifts or hospitality from pharmaceutical companies
We are committed to a democratic, team-based approach
We are committed to sustainability, and work to minimise our environmental impact
About us
St Martins is a single-site practice, based in a modern purpose-built surgery on Chapeltown Road and caring for a patient list of about 7,500. We are an advanced training practice, hosting trainee GPs, FY2s and medical students, and we have a particular focus on addressing health inequalities whilst caring for a diverse population. We work with Forward Leeds and St Annes, delivering specific services relating to substance misuse.
We are members of the Chapeltown Primary Care Network (PCN), which serves a population of 27,000. The PCN has successfully secured a range of funding, including for a Fit Note Project, and is a pilot site for neighbourhood working. We are in the process of bringing extended access services in-house. We have an allocated paramedic who provides home visits, as well as a strong pharmacy team, first contact physiotherapists, and a health & wellbeing team.
Within St Martins we operate a total triage model using SystmOne, and we have actively developed the skills of our non-clinical care navigators, to target resources as effectively as possible. Whilst we face the same demand pressures as every practice, we regularly receive excellent patient feedback, with 92% of responses rating us as good or very good in May 2026.
